Malaysia has unveiled its National Energy Efficiency Policy and Action Plan 2026–2035 (NEEAP 2.0), a comprehensive ten-year strategy designed to fundamentally reshape how the country produces, distributes and consumes energy. Launched at the 7th International Sustainable Energy Summit in Kuala Lumpur, the initiative carries ambitious targets: RM85.24 billion in utility savings, an 11.6 per cent reduction in overall energy demand, cumulative energy savings of 815,383 terajoules, and the avoidance of 26,108 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by the end of 2035.
Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, who officially presented the policy framework, emphasised that NEEAP 2.0 represents a pivotal moment for Malaysia's economic development. The plan is underpinned by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024, legislation that institutionalises efficiency requirements across all sectors of the economy rather than treating conservation as an optional add-on.
