Police in Pekan arrested three suspects on June 15 in connection with the illegal sale and forgery of medical leave certificates. The District Health Office (PKD) lodged a report on June 10 after learning of the scheme, which led to the detentions around 3 pm that afternoon.
The three detainees, all aged in their 30s, include a mechanic, a workshop owner, and a cleaner. According to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, these individuals functioned as intermediaries in the operation, tasked with recruiting customers and handling transactions within the network.
The PKD discovered the scheme after receiving information from someone who claimed to have bought a forged certificate from a local man. That individual allegedly procured the documents from a government clinic in exchange for payment. The certificates were retailed for between RM50 and RM200 each. The medical officer whose signature and credentials appeared on the documents confirmed he had been transferred elsewhere in 2023 and that the stamp utilised was outdated and no longer in circulation.
Authorities believe the primary suspect is a female civil servant employed at a clinic who allegedly provided the forged certificates to the intermediaries. Police are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend this individual.
The three arrested individuals will appear before Pekan Magistrate's Court the following day for a remand hearing. Investigators are proceeding under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which address forgery and cheating respectively.
